Synopsis: It is a surrealist participatory and autobiographic experimental short animation about my participant and my lived experience as immigrants in Canada and the mental and physical challenges we went through, especially as women. It tries to not only address the problem of accessing proper health care in Canada but also the challenges associated with reforming one’s identity and belonging while experiencing the "otherness" symbolized by the idea of insects as being the least sympathized creatures, almost alienated in our cultures. This alienation however is also recognized and represented as a true potential for reshaping one’s self-image freed from any boundaries and forced limits, which as an Iranian woman who lived the majority of my life under systematic oppression against women became a unique chance for rebirth. Therefore, this short animation tries to capture the two sides of immigration where the courage to face the unknown can open up the endless potential of “becoming” that essentially lies in its darkness. Nonetheless, such an approach to the universal story of immigration tries to bridge two perspectives of the residents and immigrants together as well which is essentially necessary for today’s ever-growing multinational societies.
